Re-modelling Your Garden – Is It Worth It?
In my experience, people decide to remodel their garden for one of two reasons: a generational change – especially when the property has been in the family for over 4-5 generations, or a change of ownership. Either way, you must be aware of the required investment – not only of money but of time, energy, and dedication to the project.
Consider this – you can change the outlook of your study or living room by simply repainting it and moving a few pieces of furniture. It might take a couple of days, but the whole room will acquire a new air about it.
The same could never be valid for a garden remodelling project. First of all, the sheer workload is different – more often than not, you must move and re-plant flowers, cut down a couple of trees, or plant new ones. And I am not even mentioning exterior design features like mini-lakes, pathways, hedges, or pavilions. If you are serious about the project, you must plan for at least a few weeks, if not a couple of months of hard work.
And yet, for all its efforts and anxiety, a garden remodelling project is more than worth it. In my ten years in landscaping, I haven’t had a customer who was not ecstatic about the final result. It might not be the easiest, but I think it is the most lasting way to leave your mark on your property. And let’s be fair – you will spend much more enjoyable hours in the garden than in the kitchen!
